  • Helped create the Transportation Committee-of-the-Whole as one of its first Co-chairs.
  • Advocated to help Fairview receive the Reconnecting Communities Grant, a first-of-its-kind federal grant aimed at reconnecting communities that are cut off from opportunity and burdened by past transportation infrastructure decisions. Cosponsored appropriations funding the required local match.
  • Sponsored and supported amendments to the Transportation Improvement Program to program funding for Complete Streets planning for the I & L and A & C corridors.
  • Outspoken advocate for equitable investment in multimodal infrastructure that prioritizes safety for all users as a member of the AMATS Policy Committee. Cosponsored multiple Assembly Resolutions providing official comment on our short and long range transportation plans, which bolstered the prioritization of investments in non-motorized transportation and public transit over expensive, unnecessary highway expansions.
  • Worked collaboratively with AKDOT&PF and MOA Traffic to launch Anchorage’s first ever protected bike lane pilot project.
  • Cosponsored an amendment to the Public Safety & Transit bond proposal to increase funding for neighborhood traffic calming.
  • Supported multiple budget amendments increasing funds for snow removal from streets and sidewalks.
  • Sponsored an amendment to the Roads bond proposal to fund pedestrian wayfinding signage in Downtown Anchorage.

Public Health

  • Co-Chair of the Health Policy Committee
  • Sponsored budget amendments to use alcohol tax funds in support of the Providence Crisis Stabilization Center, a suicide prevention campaign, and youth substance misuse prevention.
  • Sponsored legislation which, for the first time, defined qualifications in Anchorage Municipal Code for the Chief Medical Officer.
  • Cosponsored the establishment of the ‘Complex Behavioral Health Community Task Force,’ which convened local and State leadership along with community partners and members of the public to create focused recommendations to address unmet behavioral health needs.
  • Subsequently supported appropriations to implement those recommendations.
  • Sponsored legislation increasing the fine for muffler and exhaust system noise violations, in an effort to address noise pollution.


  • Cosponsored amendments to the Parks bond proposal to include funding for Johnny Ellis Rainbow Bridge and Park placemaking, improvements to Davis Park in Mountain View, and improvements to Government Hill neighborhood parks.
  • Cosponsored legislation dedicating approximately 8 acres of municipal land commonly known as “The Upper Bench,” within Tract J, as municipal parkland.


  • Supported a ballot proposition amending the Anchorage Municipal Charter to support and advance early childhood care and education and to dedicate the net proceeds of the current retail marijuana sales tax to this purpose.
  • Sponsored a budget amendment to use alcohol tax funds to support the Best Beginnings early literacy program.

Government Transparency

  • Cosponsored legislation creating the Municipal ‘Online Checkbook’ – an initiative to provide the public access to the municipal finances for increased transparency in government.
  • Cosponsored legislation ensuring safeguards around the use of facial recognition technology which protect citizens’ right to privacy.
  • Cosponsored resolution requesting Anchorage Police Department’s body-worn camera policy be rewritten to create a timeline for automatic release in the instances of officer involved shootings or other critical incidents.

Support for Workers

  • Supported the enactment of a four-week paid parental leave benefit for municipal employees.
  • Supported legislation amending Anchorage Municipal Code to include Juneteenth and Indigenous Peoples’ Day as paid municipal holidays.
  • Supported a resolution in support of Alaska House Bill 22 and Senate Bill 35, An Act that would create a new defined benefit pension option for state and municipal peace officers and firefighters in the Public Employees’ Retirement System of Alaska.


  • Cosponsored appropriations to create extremely low income and permanent supportive housing at the GuestHouse.
  • Cosponsored appropriations for the United Way Landlord Housing Partnership program to pay for up to 60 affordable rental units to be rehabilitated and to pay for security deposits.
  • Supported appropriations for the ‘Next Step Initiative’ to help people transition from shelter to housing, with supportive services to help people stabilize and begin a new chapter in life.
  • Supported appropriations for conversions of hotels to affordable housing.
  • Cosponsored the elimination of parking minimums in order to make it easier to build housing and support the adaptive reuse of vacant commercial properties.
  • Cosponsored legislation making it easier to build small multi-family (triplex and fourplex) residences.
  • Supported legislation making it easier to build accessory dwelling units.

Public Safety

  • Advocated for and supported 24/7 implementation of the Mobile Crisis Team and the Mobile Intervention Team. Trained responders are able to arrive on scene and provide deescalation and support, often preventing the need for further emergency care. This, in turn, frees up APD patrol officers to respond to crime.
  • Sponsored appropriations for the removal of graffiti from public property.

Support for Community Initiatives

  • Advocated for ARPA grants to be awarded to the Alaska Black Caucus Equity Center, Umoja Coworking Space, and Friends of Fish Creek.
